For period: 4/7-4/11Essential learning points: How did the United States expand? What were the causes and effects of the Texas Revolution? What were some causes and effects of the Mexican War? How did the Oregon Trail start and what was life like on it? What effect did the Gold Rush have on the United States?
Monday: Introduction talking about the idea of Manifest Destiny. Readings on the expansion of the United States after the Louisiana Purchase. Map and reading assignment, 25 questions.
Tuesday: Timeline on the Texas Revolution. Movie clip about the Alamo. Reading and homework assignment on the Mexican War, 15 questions.
Wednesday: Groupwork, working on information about the Oregon Trail. Students then taught information that they found to the class.
Thursday: Students worked in pairs to research information about the Gold Rush. Students then answered questions about the causes and effects of the Gold Rush.
Friday: Review vocabulary from the rest of the week. Students will create a concept map about four ideas discussed earlier in the week.
