History with Mrs. Bridges:

For period: 4/7-4/11
Essential learning points: How did the United States expand? What were the causes and effects of the Texas Revolution? What were some causes and effects of the Mexican War? How did the Oregon Trail start and what was life like on it? What effect did the Gold Rush have on the United States?
Monday: Introduction talking about the idea of Manifest Destiny. Readings on the expansion of the United States after the Louisiana Purchase. Map and reading assignment, 25 questions.
Tuesday: Timeline on the Texas Revolution. Movie clip about the Alamo. Reading and homework assignment on the Mexican War, 15 questions.
Wednesday: Groupwork, working on information about the Oregon Trail. Students then taught information that they found to the class.
Thursday: Students worked in pairs to research information about the Gold Rush. Students then answered questions about the causes and effects of the Gold Rush.
Friday: Review vocabulary from the rest of the week. Students will create a concept map about four ideas discussed earlier in the week.

Monday:Continued working on colonial Heroines and the graphic organizer.
Tuesday:Students read and took notes on notable African Americans from a Junior Scholastic magazine.
Wednesday:Read aloud a play about the "Perfect Storm". Explored difficult vocabulary using context clues.
Thursday:Library check out day and school spring pictures.
Friday:Students read and took notes on notable African Americans from a Junior Scholastic magazine.

Tuesday: Quiz Chapters 1- 8. Vocab begun.
Wednesday: Quiz returned. Library time.
Thursday: Vocab completed.
Friday: Vocab review.

Monday: Spelling pretest # 185. The River Wild conclusion. Homework: Why did they call one section of the river "the gauntlet"?
Tuesday: Plot arc for The River Wild. Gauntlet homework due.
Wednesday: Plot arc due. Folder clean out. All third quarter work brought home.
Thursday: Third quarter test returned and corrected. Journal #37: Were you ever involved in a big misunderstanding? What was it? How would you have handled it differently now?
Friday: Spelling # 185.

Essential learning points:

Recognize and correct grammar, punctuation errors.
Demonstrate understanding of correct narrative paragraph form and the writing process.
ISAT test preparation.

EARLY DISSMISSAL : Friday, Apr. 11th, the UMS school day ends @ 1:17 pm. Shortened periods happen on this schedule.

Essential learning points: Unit on Heat & Energy
Due notes: Keep the Heat projects DUE Wednesday 4/9
Monday-Tuesday: Class work time for learning about Heat through text and labs
Wednesday: Student 'keep the heat' projects due! Classroom testing & celebrations. FYI: Project Essays DUE next Wed. 4/16 with first and final draft copies.
Thursday- Friday: Text notes on Energy & Planning for our needs.
