History with Mrs. Bridges:
For period:April 14-18Essential learning points: How did slavery in the United States begin? What was the Middle Passage? What happened aboard the Amistad? What was slavery in the United States like? Who were Abolitionists? What was the Underground Railroad?
Monday: Students began class examining the differences in slavery in Africa and early history, as opposed to what slavery was like in the United States. Students then were given a worksheet that detailed how slavery spread due to the influence of the cotton gin.
Tuesday: Students looked at pictures of what life was like during slavery. Students then learned about the ordeal that Africans went through and were brought into slavery. Students began watching a movie called Slave Ship, a story about the only successful mutiny aboard a slave ship.
Wednesday: Students were assigned to an Abolitionist, and were taken to the computer lab to research basic information about their Abolitionist, which will be used to complete a project.
Thursday: Students finished the movie Slave Ship. Students then were given information about Abolitionists, and the Underground Railroad. Students looked at pictures about what life was like along the Underground Railroad.
Friday: Students continued to work in the computer lab, and finished locating information about the Abolitionists that they were researching.
